Lawrence E. Gainey, Jr. (“Larry”), a USC alumnus, has been a law enforcement officer since 1978. He served for years as the Chief of Police in Winnsboro and served for years as an assistant director at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). These days if not working for the Richland County Sheriff’s much time is spent with his dear friend, Dottie, and his Staffordshire terrier rescue, Tyson. Enjoying yard work, Larry has turned his Spring Valley residence into something right straight out of Better Homes and Gardens. His mantra, dating back to Boy Scout days, is “Do a good deed daily” and those that know him, know he does many per day. He also brews some dynamite craft beer.
Years ago a powerful addiction fell upon him. You know the story – having been hanging with the wrong crowd, he succumbed to clay pigeon killin’. Now his spare time and spare fortune are spent on shotguns and ammo as he wanders along the Creek, Oak, and Field courses trying to make birds and rabbits “dead”. He enjoys it immensely and we enjoy his company.
Be sure to say “Hello”, next time you see him out on the course!
